Sunday Seven No. 001
Friends & Fam,
To stay in good spirits and make good use of the luxury of time we suddenly have, I started compiling a list of things I have come across and found valuable over the past week. Trying something new this Sunday evening and sharing them with all of you.
If you find any of it helpful, consider forwarding this email to a friend. Feel free to share my email with them and I'll include them on the next one.
Enjoy!
WATCHING
This is heartwarming: How Coronavirus Has Changed Lives Around the World (18 minutes).
"Millions of us around the world are staying indoors, practicing social distancing to protect ourselves, and others, from the disease. Our daily routines have been disrupted, and many of us have been separated from friends, family, and work. We checked in on eight households to see how they are feeling, how they are passing the time, how they are keeping connected to others, and what they are looking forward to in a post-pandemic world. From Beijing, China, to Mashhad, Iran, to Melbourne, Australia, here’s how we’re all working through this thing, one day at a time, together."
READING
Life is Short by Paul Graham. "Relentlessly prune bullshit, don't wait to do things that matter, and savor the time you have. That's what you do when life is short."
PERSONAL FINANCE
I found this excellent Google Sheet budget template by Reggie Paquette for managing personal finances. It is far better than any personal finance tools out there. The template is based on principles from Ramit Sethi's I Will Teach You to be Reach. Set a budget and spend guilt-free. Make sure you read Reggie's post on how to use it. It took me a half-day to set up and 30 minutes a month to update it.
FOOD & GROCERIES
Treat yourself while supporting favorite local food shops. These are a few places I'd like to see thrive. You can order directly from their websites or reach out on Instagram.
Toronto - That's Life (Wine & Sake), Rglr Coffee (Coffee, Beer, Wine, Noodles), Brodflour (Bread, Baked Goods), Not Even Coffee (Coffee Beans), Forno Cultura (Delicious Italian)
Vancouver - The Federal, Matchstick, and Flourist (Groceries, Coffee, Bread, Baked Goods). Thanks to Mo Shabani (https://www.instagram.com/shabanimo) for the recommendations.
WFH
Brain.fm is functional music to improve focus. I have been using Brain.fm for the past two years and love it to help me focus on deep work. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm EST they have been hosting LIVE guided focus sessions on YouTube — and will be doing this for the entire month of April. They demonstrate how to boost productivity through work sprints with music, and help people crush seriously tough tasks! If you can’t make it Tuesday, or want to see past sessions, click here.
AIRBNB ONLINE EXPERIENCES
We took part of Ricardo's Coffee Masterclass on Airbnb this morning. For $5 each we learned something new and got some social interaction with people from around the world. Have kids? They'll love: Meet the Animals of Little Tail Farms or Remote Rescue Goats
QUOTE
My 83-year-old Grandma lives with dementia in a nursing home. My mom used to visit twice a week but hasn’t been able to lately for obvious reasons. A few weeks ago she called grandma to reassure her. My grandma’s response
I’m not the willow tree that’s so easily shaken by these winds.
I love her resiliency and we can all learn from her wisdom.
Happy Sunday!
